From 2020 to 2023, GFEMS and its partners in India, Sattva Consulting, Kois Invest, and LabourNet, conducted an ambitious initiative with micro-contractors in the Indian Construction Sector.

We had identified micro-contractors as a key stakeholder in the industry in earlier initiatives. Under Project Saksham, we supported micro-contractors with a variety of incentives including training, loans, and support recruiting workers and clients, in order to make them allies in eliminating labor abuses such as unpaid wages, dangerous working conditions, and excessive overtime.

Saksham was intially supported by Norad, the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation, and continued by a generous grant from Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), which provided the funding for this evaluation.
